May 2004 - Formula TR 2000 race -
Thunderhill CA
Thunderhill Formula TR race
April 30-04 to May 2-04
5-1-2004 - With no competition to race against, Colin set out
to beat the Formula Renault 2000 track record. Many of last years
top Pro Formula Renault drivers have tested and raced here so it was
great to break the track record today. It is getting very hard to
"race against yourself" all the time but the team is working very
hard and pushing hard to improve the car. Today Colin lapped the
entire 1600 field with the help of a mid race yellow flag.
5-2-2004 - Today with his first set of new Yokohama tires of
the weekend, Colin lowered the track record to 1:42.1. This is 1.7
seconds faster than the current record set last year. The team made
some suspension geometry changes and the car was on rails. The race
went green the whole distance and Colin was able to lap the entire
1600 field with 2 laps to go. It was one of his best drives in a
car. Just wish there was some competition to show it to. It looks
like that may change for the next race at Buttonwillow when CT
Motorsports brings 2002 Fran Am 1600 champ, Tim Barber to the track
in the teams Formula Renault 2000 car.
These were the reports we posted on our front page for the
weekend. It was another great race weekend that turned into a test
when no other 2 liter car showed up to race Colin. It is hard
keeping the focus and intensity with no one to race so we worked
very hard at the artificial goals we set. It would be hard to prove
but I think this was the best car racing weekend Colin has had.
The car set up work we did and the thinking we went thru to make
the changes was very advanced and the track record results showed
it. We just wish there was someone to race so we would know for
sure.
