8-28-2005 - Colin drives for Southpaw in Grand Am ST class

August 28 2005 - Mid Ohio - Colin was asked to drive the Southpaw racing Mazda RX8 this weekend.  Colin's co driver was Brian Sellers, who drives the factory Panoz ALMS GT car on a regular basis.  Frank Howard of Sowthpaw paired the 2 young drivers together in the last race with the RX8 for the team.  He wanted to show the cars speed, and Colin and Brian did just that.

The car did not have all the electronic upgrades that the factory Speed Source cars have and this was hurting power quite a bit.  Brian and Colin worked well with each other and the team and had the car handling well.  In one semi dry session Colin held the top of the time sheets until the track got almost completely dry.

In the race Colin started and was running as high as 6th when he tangled with another car and dropped to 9th.  He handed over to Brian at about 1/2 way and the gear box started to give problems.  Brian had to skip 3rd gear and this was costing about 2 seconds per lap.  He was able to hold on to 15th place in class and was the top running Mazda at the end.
