11-7-2006 - Colin
fastest on day 2 at Daytona

Braun paces final day at Daytona.
Teenager Colin Braun posted the quickest time at Daytona on Tuesday
as the two-day Grand Am Rolex Series test session drew to a close in
damp weather conditions.
While the lap-times weren't as quick as those posted on Monday,
Braun was quickest on the day with a time of 1min 43.947secs at the
wheel of the #76 Krohn Racing Pontiac Riley, which was good enough
to edge out Max Angelelli in the similar entry of SunTrust Racing
but just 0.004secs – Angelelli having set the pace during the two
sessions on Monday.
The Krohn team, like others, headed to Daytona International
Speedway to turn laps in preparation for the Rolex 24, as well as
get acquainted with the new BOSCH ECU. The team also dropped Pontiac
power plants in the #75 and #76 Krohn Racing for the test, and
although they haven't officially announced a switch from Ford to
Pontiac, the team is optimistic with the results.
"Nothing has been announced yet," said team manager Jeff Hazell.
"The test has gone okay. We should have announcements for cars and
driver line-ups in the near future, but we will have two Daytona
Prototypes for the Rolex 24.""The engine has been running good," said Steve Newey, engineer on
the No. 76 machine. "But we knew it was going to. We've had a few
hiccups with the new ECU, but we've been able to remedy the
problems."
The team ran a Pontiac engine in the 2006 Rolex 24 At Daytona,
finishing fifth with eventual Daytona Prototype champion Jörg
Bergmeister, Colin Braun, Nic Jönsson and team owner Tracy Krohn,
before switching to Ford power for Round 2 in Mexico City.
"Nothing has been announced yet," said team manager Jeff Hazell.
"The test has gone okay. We should have announcements for cars and
driver lineups in the near future, but we will have two Daytona
Prototypes for the Rolex 24."
Last season, the team campaigned just one Daytona Prototype in
the Rolex 24, adding a second car for the remainder of the season.
