This Week In Ford Racing -- Grand-Am Series driver Colin
Braun , Krohn Racing
6-23-2006
Colin Braun, Grand-Am Series driver for Krohn Racing,
talks about returning to the track and his second place finish at Mid-Ohio.
Braun also talks about returning to Daytona this weekend to run his first race
there under 24 hours.
THIS PAST WEEKEND AT MID-OHIO WAS THE FIRST TIME YOU WERE BACK RACING SINCE
BEFORE THE GLEN. HOW DID IT FEEL TO BE BACK WITH YOUR TEAM AND FINISH IN 2ND?
“It was really nice to come back after not driving at Watkins Glen and be able
to come back with the Krohn Racing guys and finish second. We were quite happy
about the pole position we got on Friday as well. It was a really good weekend
for Krohn Racing and for Ford as well, so we were quite happy.”
YOU QUALIFIED ON THE POLE, BUT HAD TO GO TO THE BACK OF THE PACK. HOW WERE ABLE
TO SHOOT UP THROUGH THE FIELD? “Well, we started in the back, unfortunately, but
I think I passed 20 cars in my first stint. We brought the car up to fifth or
sixth when I got out of the car and then Jorg [Bergmeister] got in and drove
from fifth to second. It was not too hard because we had a really quick car and
it was just set up really well and we just sort of drove and passed as many cars
as we could and ended up finishing second. It was quite an impressive weekend
for us and a compliment to the Krohn Racing guys to how well the car was set up
and also all the power we had from the Ford engine. That obviously made it easy
to pass cars down the straight.”
AFTER THE RACE AT THE GLEN, YOU SPENT SOME TIME OVER IN LE MANS WATCHING THE
EVENT WITH KROHN RACING, WHAT WAS THAT LIKE? “I was invited by Tracy Krohn to go
over to Le Mans and see what that race was and how it works. Hopefully, I’ll be
racing there soon. He just wanted me to come and see what it’s like before I
actually race there. I had a fun time learning about the race and seeing all of
the cars and the event. It was really neat. It’s always kind of different going
to a race and not driving. It’s definitely a good thing to do so when you go
there to race you are prepared. It was a lot of fun to go there at watch that
race.”
THIS WEEKEND YOU HEAD TO DAYTONA WHERE YOU’VE TWICE RUN THE 24-HOUR RACE. HOW
MUCH FUN IS IT TO RUN IN DAYTONA? “I’ve driven there twice, once in a Porsche
911GT car and then once earlier this year in a Krohn Racing prototype car. We
had a seventh-place finish in the GT car and a fifth-place finish in a prototype
car this year. It will be fun going back to Daytona. The two times I’ve raced
there were the 24-hour races, so it will be fun to kind of race a sprint race
and go as fast as you can go there.”
