Colin will drive full time in the NASCAR Truck series
Homestead, Fla. (November 16,
2007) – Roush Fenway Racing announced today that Con-Way Freight
will be the primary sponsor of the No. 6 Ford F-150 with
up-and-coming superstar Colin Braun behind the wheel. This will be
Braun’s first full-season in the Craftsman Truck Series where he
will compete for Raybestos Rookie-of-the-Year with crew chief Mike
Beam by his side.
“This is a dream come true,” said Braun. “To be with a team like
Roush Fenway Racing and to have the opportunity to drive the No. 6
Con-way Freight F-150 is really exciting. I didn’t have a sponsor in
the Grand Am Series so Con-way is essentially my first sponsor which
is really cool. To have a company of over 25,000 people supporting
me and the entire No. 6 Con-way Freight team is just incredible.
We’re really proud to have everyone at Con-way as part of our team
and we’re looking forward to a great 2008 season together.”
Next season will be Con-way Freight’s third year in the Craftsman
Truck Series but first with Roush Fenway Racing.
“We are excited to be joining one of the largest and most successful
racing organizations in the business,” said John G. Labrie,
president of Con-way Freight. “This sponsorship takes our NASCAR
participation to the next level. Roush Fenway and Ford Racing are a
proven team which is providing Con-way with an excellent program. We
look forward to an exciting and successful season for the No. 6
Con-way Freight Ford F-150.”
Roush Fenway Racing owner Jack Roush is anxious to see what his new
talent can do in the Truck Series next year.
“Colin Braun is a very talented race car driver.” Roush continued,
“He’s put in a lot of time and effort to make the transition from
sports car racing to stock cars and I think that’s showed in the
five races he’s run for us this year. I think we’ll see good things
from Colin and the No. 6 Con-way Freight team next year.”
When asked what his goals are for 2008, Braun simply stated, “Our
main goal is to make all the laps and gain experience in the first
part of the year. As the season progresses we want to put ourselves
in position to win races and the Raybestos Rookie-of-the-Year
title.”
Braun signed with Roush Fenway Racing earlier this year and has run
three ARCA RE/MAX Series races never finishing outside the top 10.
In his first ARCA Series start at Gateway Braun finished a
respectable ninth and then at Talladega Superspeedway clocked his
best qualifying effort in the series, third, led his first laps and
looked to be a contender for the win until a late race move put him
to ninth at the checkers.
With three ARCA races under his belt, Braun made his first career
Craftsman Truck Series start at Martinsville in October and was
running well until a flat tire late in the race ended his day early.
He also raced the No. 16 3M Ford at the Memphis Busch race in
October running in the top-10 while ultimately finishing 30th. Braun
also raced in the Rolex Grand-Am Series this year for Krohn Racing
where in 15 starts, he accrued two poles, nine top-five and 12
top-10 finishes.
