Boston, Mass. Con-way
Freight and Roush Fenway Racing unveiled the 2008 design for the No.
6 Con-way Freight F-150 today at the Boston Auto Show. The No. 6
truck will carry Con-way Freight’s signature blue brand stripe with
Rookie-of-the-Year contender Colin Braun (pronounced brown) behind
the wheel in the Craftsman Truck Series next year.
“This
is a dream come true,” said Braun. “To be with a team like Roush
Fenway Racing and to have the opportunity to drive the No. 6 Con-way
Freight F-150 is really exciting. I didn’t have a sponsor in the
Grand Am Series so Con-way is essentially my first sponsor which is
really cool. To have a company of over 21,000 people supporting me
and the entire No. 6 Con-way Freight team is just incredible. We’re
really proud to have Con-way as part of our team and we’re looking
forward to a great 2008 season together.”
Braun continued, “This is a great looking truck and to be able to
unveil the new paint scheme here in Boston in front of the Red Sox
Nation is really cool. Things just keep getting better.”
Roush Fenway Racing announced in Homestead, Fla. that Con-Way
Freight will be the primary sponsor of the No. 6 Ford F-150 with
up-and-coming superstar Braun behind the wheel. It will be Braun’s
first full-season in the Craftsman Truck Series where he will
compete for Raybestos Rookie-of-the-Year with crew chief Mike Beam
by his side. This announcement also solidifies an already long
standing relationship between Con-way Freight and Ford Motor
Company.
Con-way's linkage to the Ford Motor Company goes back nearly 25
years to the first truck-tractor that went into service for
Con-way's fleet. That unit, a Ford model CL9000 "cab over" heavy
duty tractor, started hauling freight on Con-way's first day of
business, June 20, 1983 and operated throughout the Central United
States for nearly a decade before being retired some 592,273 miles
later. Today, Con-way remains one of Ford's larger corporate
customers and utilizes Ford Motor Company products exclusively for
its company fleet of over 1,300 passenger vehicles.
Next season will be Con-way Freight’s third year in the Craftsman
Truck Series but first with Roush Fenway Racing.
“We are excited to be joining one of
the largest and most successful racing organizations in the
business,” said John G. Labrie, president of Con-way Freight. “This
sponsorship takes our NASCAR participation to the next level. Roush
Fenway and Ford Racing are a proven team which is providing Con-way
with an excellent program. We look forward to an exciting and
successful season for the No. 6 Con-way Freight Ford F-150.”
Roush Fenway Racing owner Jack Roush is anxious to see what his new
talent can do in the Truck Series next year.
“Colin Braun is a very talented race car driver.” Roush continued,
“He’s put in a lot of time and effort to make the transition from
sports car racing to stock cars and I think that’s showed in the
five races he’s run for us this year. I think we’ll see good things
from Colin and the No. 6 Con-way Freight team next year.”
When asked what his goals are for 2008, Braun simply stated, “Our
main goal is to make all the laps and gain experience in the first
part of the year. As the season progresses we want to put ourselves
in position to win races and the Raybestos Rookie-of-the-Year
title.”
