Colin drives a USAC National Midget
Andersen IN - 1/4 mile paved
oval track banked 35 degrees. 380 HP in a 850 pound car.
11.9 second lap time. What is all that? It is Colin
driving a USAC National Midget car at the Andersen Indiana track as
a guest of Bob East. Bob East builds some of the best Midgets
in the USA under the Beast name. His cars and team have won
many USAC national championships. To have the privilege to
drive a Bob east car is very special. Then to have Bobby East,
past USAC midget drivers champion work with you for the day, just
makes it more special.
At
the left is a car similar to the one Colin drove (he was to busy to
get any shots of it) Colin had a blast driving the car and
working with Bob and Bobby. He commented on the upright
seating position and the fact that you push down on the brake and
gas, not forward. Also having no clutch or gears brought back
memories of his direct drive karting days, except when the push
truck pulled up behind to get you going.
Colin was able to run times very close to Bobby and
his consistency was something Bob liked to see. Colin loved
the power and the premium the car placed on feeling the tire and
balancing the throttle on exit.
While racing a USAC midget is not in Colin's future,
he sure had fun in the car and wants to thank everyone that put the
day together for the opportunity.
