Alton
VA - The VIR 400k at VIRginia International Raceway proved
to be another exciting Grand-Am Rolex Series race at the
historic 3.27-mile, 17-turn rolling green circuit. Krohn
Racing's Colin Braun and "Mad" Max Papis, who both led the 400
kilomter/77 lap/two and a half hour race, finished second at the
end. Krohn Racing owner/driver Colin Braun, who duplicated his
Mexico City feat after being awarded his second pole position
start this year, had a nearly flawless run. Braun led the 21-car
Daytona Prototype field for nearly all of his driving stint
except for when he pitted for tires and fuel under the first
caution on Lap 7. He gained back the lead and maintained it
despite briefly dropping off track momentarily until he pitted
the second time and turned over the car to teammate Max Papis on
Lap 44.

Long brake sent Colin off but his radio
comment was "no big deal" - he still had a 13 secong lead
Papis retook the lead on Lap 47 while under caution
and maintained it until Max Angelelli, in the No. 10 SunTrust
Pontiac Riley, got past him under braking on Lap 52 and held
onto it until the end. Angelelli had just a 3.5-second margin of
victory over Italian rival Papis. Papis and Braun continue to
hold third in the points championship with 107, 20 down from new
leaders Angelelli and Jan Magnusson. Scott Pruett is second with
116 points.
Colin Braun, driver, No. 75 Krohn Racing Pontiac
Riley:
"It was a good race. My stint was really good. I
think I got in a rhythm and saving the tires paid off. We were
doing better than anyone else, I think, about preserving the
tires and still being quick. We were working a lot on getting
the car to be good over the long run. David (Brown, Krohn Racing
Engineer) and Max did a great job getting the car consistent on
both new and old tires. There were no issues in the first stint,
and it was actually pretty uneventful. Max got in and did a
really good job with the car. This whole team is doing a really
great job. We're all getting good at working together and we've
got it figured out. We're going to test this week and hope to
challenge for the win at the next race."
Max Papis, driver, No. 75 Krohn Racing Pontiac
Riley:
"I want to congratulate all of my Krohn Racing
team. Colin drove a fantastic race. I was struggling a little
bit getting into the corner under braking. There was not much I
could do. I tried to keep Angelelli behind me as much as I
could. We didn't have much for him today. They were really the
class of the field. I tried to stay with him and keep pressure
on him so he couldn't drive away. We have to work a little bit
on the set-up of the car, but I was very proud. We did a great
job. We worked really well all weekend. Colin did a superb pole
position. Although we were not 110% today in the race, we showed
that we are a championship contender team. Finishing second is
the first loser, but we also gained towards the championship.
Everyone did a superb job - Colin was great, we all worked well
together, improved the car, and I am really ecstatic how we're
gelling and coming together as a team. We're going to be back.
The win is pretty close and we're working on it. With Colin and
the Krohn Racing people, we'll make it happen."
Tracy W. Krohn, team owner/driver, No. 76 Krohn
Racing Pontiac Riley:
"The kid (Colin) did a great job this weekend; got
another pole and led the field by nearly 15 seconds before the
caution came out, which wasn't beneficial to us. But it was a
pretty good weekend all in all."
Jeff Hazell, Krohn Racing Team Manager:
"Colin was really perfect. He had a little problem
with the brake, which caused him to go off briefly. Otherwise it
was a perfect weekend for him. Max had a car that had too much
oversteer, but he held onto second. He and Colin maintain third
in the championship.
The next Grand-Am race, Round 5 of 14, will be the U.S.
Sports Car Invitational at Laguna Seca Raceway in Monterey,
California May 17-20, 2007. The race will be televised live on
