Laguna
Seca CA - The U.S. Sports Car Invitational race at Mazda
Raceway Laguna Seca in Monterey, California was a nail-biter to
the finish. Seven cautions for thirty laps, nearly one-third of
the race, including the final lap, was the name of the game in
this round five of 14 races.
The No. 75 Krohn Racing Pontiac
Riley finished eighth overall with qualifying driver Max Papis
and co-driver Colin Braun, who had to start from the rear of the
field after a post-qualifying penalty for the car being too
wide. Colin Braun set the fastest lap of the race, a 1:21.190,
on lap 77.
The No. 23 Alex Job Racing Porsche of Jörg Bergmeister and
Patrick Long became the fifth different Grand-Am Daytona
Prototype winner this season. Runner-up was the No. 01 Chip
Ganassi Lexus Riley of points leader Scott Pruett and teammate
Memo Rojas and third was the No. 60 Michael Shank Racing Lexus
Riley of Oswaldo Negri and Mark Patterson.
Max Papis, driver, No. 75 Krohn Racing Pontiac
Riley:
"The Krohn Racing car was awesome. The Pontiac
engine was definitely great today. I guess that Bill Auberlen
decided to just hit everybody today. I gave him plenty of room.
He was faster than me because my rear tires were almost gone and
I only had two laps to go to finish my stint. The guy just
decided to run into the back of our car. It's really
disappointing because when you're fighting and working hard all
day to get the car back to the front, to have that happen was
very disappointing. I know that's racing but I was not expecting
that from him. Overall we had it covered pretty well today and
we keep chipping away at the championship, so at the end it was
a good day."
Colin Braun, driver, No. 75 Krohn Racing Pontiac
Riley:"It was a fun race. We had the quickest car
at the end. We set the quickest race lap a couple of times, so
it was good. The race was definitely a rough race, but still
fun. Grand-Am told us side-to-side contact was okay, and many
drivers did just that. Anytime you tried to make a pass, you
could put your side into it. We got pretty close a few times but
I think the car survived for the most part. It is good to be
back in third in the points, especially after a rough race like
that. We'll just continue to work towards the championship each
race this season."
Jeff Hazell, Krohn Racing Team Manager:
"We had a difficult weekend. We had a little
problem after qualifying and our time was disallowed. Max did a
good job. Colin did a good job. Really both drivers did very
well. It was rough and tumble out there because it is so hard to
pass. We were able to close the gap in points. We're pleased
with that. If we can close the gap with a couple of points each
race, we'll make some progress towards the championship."
The Krohn Racing team moved back into third in the Daytona
Prototype points chase with the No. 75 entry after five of 14
races this season. Papis and Braun have two podium finishes, a
second-place at both VIR and Mexico City. Braun also captured
the pole at both those races. Krohn and Jönsson have two Top 10
finishes so far this year.
The next race, Round 6 of 14, will be the Sahlen's 6 Hours at
The Glen at Watkins Glen International on June 8-9, 2007. The
race will be televised live on Sunday, June 9th, on
SPEED TV in two parts, one at 11:00 a.m. and the second
broadcast beginning at 2:30 p.m. ET. For more information,
