Watkins
Glen NY - Tight, close racing throughout the entire race and
especially on the final lap of the Crown Royal 200 race at
Watkins Glen International predicated the outcome of the
two-hour/82-lap sprint race for the No. 75 Krohn Racing Pontiac
Riley. Sharing the front row on the start was the No. 75
of Krohn Racing Pontiac of Nic Jonsson and Colin Braun. Jonsson
was able to keep the green car at the front. On the pit stop
Braun took over and was running strongly in third. On the
penultimate lap he passed the No. 10 into turn 10, causing a
rage in Agnelelli who retook the position into turn one.
Unfortunately there was contact and the 75 spun and ended up in
11th place.
Colin Braun, driver, No. 75 Krohn Racing Pontiac
Riley:
“We had a good race going. The whole team did a
great job. There was a lot of tight, very close racing over the
last part of the race. "I got a good run on the 10 into turn 10
and made the pass," Braun said. "I guess that angered him and he
came back with a vengeance into turn one. We had contact, he got
bye and finished second. I thought we could get the Krohn car in
second place. It was getting better the more laps that we put on
it and the front guys were coming back to me. Too bad it had to
finish that way. The Krohn team deserved a better result today."
Max
Angelelli driver, No 10 Sun Trust Racing Pontiac Riley:
"I was really mad when I got out of the car,"
Angelelli said. "It really made me angry when he went around me.
I just couldn't stand for that and I went into turn one and
passed him back. He spun after that and I think that was his
just reward.
Tracy W. Krohn, team owner
Regarding Colin’s run at the finish:
“It was fun to watch Colin. He made a great pass.
I thought he was going to pass Angelelli and Gurney. He made a
really good move and got a good run on both of them. He went
inside and got by Angelelli but didn’t get by Gurney. I don’t
know what happened exactly but I think there was some contact
with Angelelli at Turn One. He spun out. It was a pretty
exciting finish and a good effort.”
Alex
Gurney, Driver #99 Gainsco Pointiac Riley
"It seemed
like our car was the best on the restarts," Gurney said. "The
car was there. It was a perfect day for the team. Jon qualified
the car and smoked everybody and did a perfect job during his
stint. We had a good pit stop at the 45-minute mark, and I was a
little worried with the guys behind me - Max (Angelelli), Scott
(Pruett), Colin (Braun). These guys are the toughest guys out
there."
The next race, Round 13 of 14,
will be at the beautiful Infineon Raceway at Sears Point in
Sonoma, California for the Armed Forces Grand-Am 250 on
August 23-25, 2007. The race will be televised tape delay on
SPEED TV on Saturday night, August 25 at 7:00 p.m. EDT.
