8-21-2007 - Colin is fastest at Chicagoland in Roush ARCA car

JOLIET IL (8-21-07)--Roush Fenway Racing's Colin Braun, an 18-year-old up-and-coming racer from the road course ranks, was unofficially fastest during an ARCA RE/MAX Series test session at Chicagoland Speedway on Tuesday afternoon.

The full day test session, designed to prepare drivers and teams for the September 8th Chicagoland ARCA 200, was delayed by three-and-a-half hours due to morning rain showers in Joliet, Illinois.

Braun, who plans to make his ARCA RE/MAX Series debut at Gateway Int'l Raceway on August 31st, became the youngest driver in U.S. history to win a professional Formula car race at the age of 14 and currently competes in the Grand Am division. He unofficially clocked in at 30.75 seconds/175.61 mph around the 1.5-mile Chicagoland oval on Tuesday afternoon, besting a wide range of ARCA RE/MAX Series veterans and new comers. Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin's Bryan Reffner, was unofficially second quickest and Hueytown, Alabama's Justin South was unofficially clocked in the third position.

Test participants included drivers from 11 different U.S. States plus Brampton, Ontario's Pete Shepherd and Vienna, Austria's Markus Fux. Veteran ARCA RE/MAX Series driver and Chicago native Billy Venturini tested in a family-prepared Chevrolet. Venturini finished a career-best third in the ARCA RE/MAX Series national championship point standings in 2006 and has 159 career ARCA RE/MAX Series starts including one win at Salem Speedway in 2006.

The Chicagoland ARCA 200, which marks the 20th of 23 events on the 2007 ARCA RE/MAX Series schedule, will air LIVE on SPEED at 2 p.m. Eastern on September 8, 2007.
